This summer, while visiting my mother in Kansas City, Katie and her mom, Jenny came to visit from Nebraska as well. I had learned of Katie's engagement, and was so excited to see her and hear all about it. I was truly honored that one of the main goals of this trip was to talk about the wedding planning with me! Although more than a year out, we were able to make lists, prioritize budgets, and figure out what Katie and Scott really wanted.
This is the first of several blogs I will write about Katie's wedding, so I wanted to get some background information laid out. More wedding planning tips to come!
I asked Katie to answer some questions about her and Scott. Here they are:
When did you get engaged and how did he propose?
We got engaged July 24, 2009! We had been talking about marriage and looking at rings for months; it was just a matter of when! He's full of surprises so I knew I'd be completely caught off guard...and I was!
We were preparing for a trip to Cabo to meet with my family. This is an annual trip, however, I had never taken a boyfriend before. It was the day before we were supposed to fly out; I was running around town picking up a few last minute items and I still had to pack! I was a little stressed to say the least. This was also the first trip Scott and I would be taking together. We met for dinner, talked about the trip and what a great time we would have. I was just a little on-edge. I like to call it "pre-trip jitters."
When we got back to our apartment he said, "just sit down for a minute, I have a surprise for you." The next thing I knew he came out with the infamous pink bag from Victoria's Secret. Oh boy....what do we have here? Knowing Scott it could have been anything! I opened the gift to find this perfect black and white polka dot bikini! He knew that I had been looking for another swimsuit for the trip and hadn't had any luck. I immediately tried it on; it fit perfectly and I felt great! Then he says, "O.K, well I have one more thing that I think will go really well with the swimsuit." Hmmm, I'm thinking a cover-up or a wrap of some sort, right? I close my eyes and I can hear him moving around a bit. He tells me to open my eyes....and there he is on one knee holding the most beautiful ring I could ever imagine.
He designed it himself and it was the perfect combination of everything he knew I would love.
When and where is the wedding?
The big day is August 7, 2010 at Riverside Golf Club in Grand Island, Nebraska. We're having the ceremony outdoors followed with dinner and the reception.
What are you inspired by for your wedding decor?
Honestly, I was never the girl who had it all planned out with a vision of what her wedding would look like, which is weird because I'm a total planner and organized freak! I love stylish simplicity and a very classic look. I want formal yet warm and inviting, lots of white lights and candles. I really want to transform the space into something beautiful and memorable.
What are your wedding colors?
I love chocolate brown!!! And I'm a complete girlie girl so I knew pink would be involved and I'll bring in some shades of green with our centerpieces.
What can you tell me about your dress?
It's the perfect dress for me! I really didn't know what I was looking for, but it's the first and only dress I tried on. There's no sparkle or beading, yet it's full of detail, form-fitting and strapless yet not predictable and very red-carpet glam! (note from Patrick--I am one of 4 people who have seen the dress, and I was so excited to be there with Katie when she found it. She INSTANTLY knew it was the one!)Katie and Scott
